Alloy 49 is a mixture of both nickel and iron. Alloy 49 has the highest saturation flux density of any other nickel alloy, meaning that the state reached when an increase in an external magnetic field cannot increase the magnetization of the material further. Alloy 49 is a nickel-iron alloy that appears dull white and has minimal sheen.

Due to the high saturation flux density, ductility, and versatility of this alloy, it also has magnetic and shielding properties. It is also mildly resistant against weather and moisture corrosion.
