Sundara Kanda, which translates to beautiful incident book, is the fifth book in the Ramayana, a Hindu epic. It narrates Hanumans journeys. The first person to scripturally record the Ramayana was Valmiki, who also wrote the original Sundara Kanda, which is written in Sanskrit. The only chapter of the Ramayana in which Hanuman rather than Rama serves as the protagonist is Sundara Kanda. In the text,Hanuman strength, altruism, and devotion to Rama are stressed. Hanumans mother Anjani and Sage affectionately referred to him as Sundara. Given that the main focus of this Kand is Hanumans journey to Lanka, Valmiki choose this name above others.
