Substances or chemicals which are added to the asphalt to change the finishing outcome of concrete are called as asphalt additives. These additives refer to a number of substances, which can be added to the asphalt binder for the purpose of changing characteristics of the finishing blend of HMA. Extenders, antioxidants, antistripping additives, hydrocarbons polymers, extenders, oxidants and chemical modifiers are the additives being utilized to enhance AC performances. Phosphoric acid is the most frequently used chemical modifier. It can also be used in combination with polymers for increasing high-temperature stiffness. Additives are used for different purposes like to reduce traffic volumes, tire pressure and traffic loads and to construct HMA pavements.
