Balarama Dasa then again spelled Balaram Das was an Odia artist and litterateur. He was one of the 5 extraordinary artists in Odia writing, the Panchasakha during the Bhakti time of writing. He was the oldest of the Pancha sakha. He composed the Jagamohana Ramayana otherwise called Dandi Ramayana.Not much is been aware of his initial life. From his own compositions it is realized that he was the child of Somanatha Mahapatra and Jamuna Debi. Somanatha was a clergyman of Gajapati Prataparudra Deva’s court and initially had a place with the town of Erabanga in Puri locale.
