Parasara was a maharshi and the creator of numerous old Indian texts. He is certify as the creators of the principal Purana, the Vishnu Purana, before his child Vyasa composed it in its current structure. He was the grandson of Vasishtha, the child of Śakti Maharṣi. There are a few texts which give reference to Parāśara as a creator/speaker. The different texts credited to him are given regarding Parāśara being the speaker to his understudy.
