It involves the removal of the head of the pancreas, part of the small intestine (duodenum), gallbladder, and sometimes a portion of the stomach and nearby lymph nodes. The remaining structures are then reconnected to restore the digestive and biliary systems.
Recovery from the Whipple procedure can be challenging, and it typically requires a hospital stay of around one to two weeks. During this time, the medical team will closely monitor the patient’s recovery, manage pain, and provide supportive care.
